Summer Reading Guide 2025: Must-Read Books On Art, Music, Comics And Photography

Brownie is a vibrant collection of color photographs by American photographer David Katzenstein, shot between 1979 and 1989 with a simple Kodak Duaflex camera.

Sparked by a yard-sale find and inspired by the original Kodak Brownie, Katzenstein turned the camera’s limitations into a decade-long creative journey. The square-format images are rich in color, spontaneity, and painterly influences from Matisse and Bonnard. Katzenstein captures scenes from New York to Latin America and North Africa. Both nostalgic and experimental, Brownie is a testament to the power of constraint in sparking artistic discovery.
