On Lake Garda
Salò, located on the Southwest shores, turned out to be a good base for exploring the lake. Ferries went daily to all parts, and the town itself was full of history and good food. Turns out that from 1943-1945 the city was the de facto capital of Mussollini’s Nazi-back puppet state, the Italian Social Republic.
