PORTUGAL - While visiting Lisbon one summer Sunday morning I wandered into a church courtyard just as a wedding ceremony was about to begin. What I love about this photograph is not only the multiple levels of people stepping back in the frame but the juxtaposition of the ‘couple’ in the middle. Both the height disparity and the different directions of their gazes add to the mood of the moment. It is as if the dropped into the frame quietly sandwiched between heated conversations in front and behind them. One can imagine many different scenarios about these two and how they ended up together, if only for the split second of the camera shutter.
